What is a URL slug?
A URL slug is the part of a web address that comes after the domain name. For example, in example.com/my-blog-post, the slug is my-blog-post. A good slug is short, descriptive, uses lowercase letters, separates words with hyphens, and avoids special characters, spaces, and numbers that do not add meaning.

Filename slug best practices
Clean filenames help teams recognize assets quickly and make uploaded media URLs easier to read. Keep the important subject words, remove temporary labels like final-final or screenshot copy, and avoid punctuation that can be encoded awkwardly in a browser. For image libraries, include the topic, product, location, or page context instead of random camera names.
After generating slugs, review duplicates before renaming files in bulk. Two different source names can become the same slug once spaces, symbols, and capitalization are normalized. When you publish renamed files, update internal links, image references, and downloadable document links so visitors and crawlers do not hit old paths.
