XML Sitemap Generator and URL Validator

Paste page URLs and generate a basic XML sitemap.

Paste absolute HTTP or HTTPS page URLs.

How to update your sitemap

A sitemap needs updating whenever you add, remove, delete, or restructure pages. Regenerate the XML from your current canonical URLs, remove any that are now redirected, noindex, or blocked by robots.txt, and compare the new count with the previous version. A mismatch often means a page was published or retired.

Upload the updated sitemap to the same location, then resubmit the URL in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. If your CMS generates the sitemap automatically, check that new pages appear in the feed and that removed pages are no longer listed. Read the sitemap generation guide for the full workflow.

Validate the URL list before generating XML

The generator accepts absolute HTTP and HTTPS page URLs, removes exact duplicates, and reports invalid or unsupported lines. It checks URL syntax only: it does not crawl the site, fetch response codes, detect canonical tags, test noindex rules, or discover pages automatically.

This page creates a standard page sitemap. It does not create a video, image, news, or hreflang sitemap. Use a crawler, CMS integration, or specialist generator when those extensions or automated checks are required.

How to Use XML Sitemap Generator

XML Sitemap Generator builds a real sitemap from canonical URLs that should be discoverable and indexable.

  1. Paste the final canonical URLs, one per line, and leave out redirects, noindex pages, and private paths.
  2. Set change frequency and priority only after confirming the URL list is clean.
  3. Generate the XML, validate it, and compare the count with your live indexable pages.
  4. Blocked, redirected, duplicate, or noindex URLs do not belong in a sitemap.
  5. Name the sitemap draft with the site or section before replacing the live sitemap.xml.

Things to Check

  • Blocked or noindex urls do not belong in sitemaps.
  • Very large URL lists can use browser memory; generate big sitemaps by section on low-memory devices.
  • Load the sitemap XML in a browser and submit the live URL in search tools after upload.

How to crawl and check a sitemap

To crawl a sitemap, open the generator above, enter your website URL, and click Generate to fetch and validate the sitemap. The tool reads your robots.txt, discovers linked pages, and checks for errors like broken URLs, missing lastmod dates, and orphaned pages.

After generating, download the XML file and submit it to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Re-crawl monthly or after major site changes to catch new pages, removed URLs, and redirect chains early.

Types of sitemaps in SEO

The main sitemap types are: XML sitemaps (for search engines), HTML sitemaps (for human visitors), image sitemaps (for image search), video sitemaps (for video search), and news sitemaps (for Google News). Each serves a different crawling or discovery purpose.

An XML sitemap lists canonical URLs with optional lastmod dates. An HTML sitemap is a linked page listing site sections for navigation. Image and video sitemaps add metadata (captions, thumbnails, durations) that help media appear in specialized search results. Submit your XML sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools after creating it with the generator above.
